Those sure will be great on the grill. Seeing your herfords almost makes me want to get some again. Last ones we had were about 20 years ago, they sure are nice but I snapped out of it.

well joe we're getting a little closer to the grill
this is my buddy of 50 years steve and stewy , he went in on the beef with me
i got a surprise a couple weeks ago, when i went to see mr. zimmerman out in terri hill about having them processed, he isn't cutting until the last week in oct. so i'm scheduled to be his first of the season.
i guess it's time to go looking for the next set for next year.
i figure they are 1000 to 1100 apiece, the scale will tell.

Re: red pigs growing in pa.
That sure looks like some pretty prime cuts there. Stewey what a great name for a beefer, looks like he will be part of some fine stews. I am no longer tempted to raise those critters now, my blueberries and raspberries take up a major portion of the old pasture and hay prices are through the roof. What are you feeding him until his date wth the steak man?

i've put them back in the pasture for thirty days joe, i had been finishing them with a really fine chopped finisher ration that is about 14% ,soy meal corn etc. it really fine and roasted smells good.i grew them on steam flaked corn, rolled oats and 1000 lb round haylage bales. i had them up to a 5 gallon bucket a day apiece but cut them back to a bucket between them while at pasture.end of the month they go back in the pen and on the heavy ration for almost 2 months and just enough hay to keep their gut from twisting. then hopefully i'll have my cattle truck up and running so i don't have to pay hauling over to zimmermans.

So after all the cost for feed....what does it work out per/pound...or do you just like to know where your beef comes from.

Re: red pigs growing in pa.
soupy dressed at 800 lbs and stewy dressed at 980 lb i guess i let them get a little large, zimmerman says that they probably weighed up to 1400-1500. not bad a 65% yeild or better is what i was looking for. i go out and pick them up tomorrow morning, it will be nice to have a part of them back home
