cub cadet 582 special

Postby IH GIRL » Wed Jan 19, 2005 2:10 pm

Hi, just found a nice red IH CC 582 special. It says special in the decals. Any one have any info on these, what is the difference between them and the 582's.

The 582 Special has a 4 speed (3 speed plus 1 speed creeper or 'grannie' gear) Pearless transaxle, shaft drive from engine to a right angle gearbox, and then belt driven to the transaxle. It has the same 16 hp B&S 2 cylinder engine as the 582, but the 582 has the same 3 speed Cub transaxle as the other IH built gear drive Cub Cadets. It can also be found decaled as a 580, and painted yellow and white and built by Cub Cadet Corp (MTD)

The 582 specials have the cheap Peerless trans/rear end. This lowered thier orignal selling price (vs the regular 582) and made them "special" when they were sold as new.

They are basically good parts donor tractors.

So it was the same definition of "special" that Buick used!

I believe its more along the lines of the infamous quote by the Church Lady....."Isn't that special??!!"
