This is a soup which Dan and I enjoy. Preparation is quick and easy.
3 (10 1/2-oz.) cans condensed chicken broth
1 1/2 cups mild chunky-style salsa or picante
1/2 teaspoon grated orange peel
2 (9-oz.) pkg. refrigerated meat-filled or cheese-filled tortellini
2 cups frozen cut broccoli (from 1-lb.pkg.)
1 cup frozen corn (from 1-lb. pkg)
1/2 cup coarsely chopped red bell pepper
1 (5-oz.) can evaporated milk
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
In Dutch oven or large saucepan, combine broth, salsa and orange peel. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; simmer 3 minutes.
Stir in tortellini and vegetables; cook over medium heat for 6 to 8 minutes or until tortellini and vegetables are tender.
Stir in milk and salt; cook 1 to 2 minutes or just until thoroughly heated, stirring occasionally. DO NOT BOIL. Top each serving of chowder with cilantro. Serve immediately and enjoy. Janie

Your Chowder sound really good. I am going shoping tonight for some tortellini and will sample it this weekend.
I love chowder.

I made your Southwestern Tortellini Chowder tonight and it was a hit with the whole family.
It is easy and fast to prepare. Thank you
I used a fresh homemade chicken broth and my own salsa, of course. I served it with fresh homemade baker style corn bread. It was an excellent pairing. Rudi had two bowls.
Do you have any other great recipes
I am trying to decide which one to submit next. Any ideas
Everyone, I would highly recommend this recipe. It is a keeper.

WHAT IS CILANTRO? NEVER HEARD OF IT. I AM OFF OF WORK RIGHT NOW AND WOULD LIKE TO TRY SOME NEW RECIPES AND THIS SOUNDS VERY GOOD, HOWEVER HAVE "NO" IDEA WHAT THIS IS. ANOTHER QUESTION: THE ORANGE PEEL, YOU JUST GRATE IT VERY FINE AND ADD IT?

John: The recipe calls for cilantro. However, Dan and I do not care for it so I don't use it. It is an excellent dish without cilantro. Janie

John: I failed to answer your second question. Yes, adding some finely grated orange peel adds zest to the flavor. Hope you enjoy it. Janie
