it is warm and i'm itching to plant

Postby dirtyred » Thu Jan 21, 2010 9:40 am

it has been in the 70s the past few days and i got spring fever. gonna be adding some horse manure to the garden on saturday. I hope to put up bout 75% of what we eat out of our garden this year. wish i had more land i would raise a beef so i could bump it up to bout 90% of our groceries that was home grown. It makes me feels good to know that supper was put on te table by our hardwork. After all when God created Adam he made him a gardener :)

Dirtyred: I wish I could do what you are planning to do. I'm working up to, but a looooonnnnnggggg way from being there. I can fertilize it, till it, plant it, and harvest ok....it's the storage part that gives me trouble   I might get up to 1 weeks worth of food. Better than last year. Good luck with your goal..Dirtdoc

Check with your County Extension Office they probably have lots of publications on dry storage, freezing, canning, etc. If they don't have what you're looking for let me know and I'll see you get all the information Tennessee has.
