It Ain't Illinois But Michigan Has A Few Deer

I finally got my scanner to a point where it works, thanks in big part to Rudi, so I thought I'd post a few pictures. Seeing some of the great deer that Yogie and Trent have posted pictures of, I was jealous.

Since I have taken up the longbow, the quality of my bucks has lessened but the satisfaction has gone through the roof. I must now work in much closer quarters and it changes the whole way that you have to set up to get the shot you want. My ideal shot distance is now 12-15 yards and I won't take shots outside of 20 yards, typically.

No, but I sure wish I had. I hunted this buck with my bow for over a month and couldn't get close enough for a chance. I borrowed a shotgun and got him the day after Thanksgiving. It's the only deer I've ever taken with a shotgun. I do hunt now days with a muzzle loader, a TC Omega, once in a while. When my daughter was younger, about 5 or 6 she wanted to go hunting with me. I put up a second tree stand in a tree and she joined me while bow hunting some times. We also hunted on the ground a couple of times but I realized that the odds of taking a nice buck with my longbow while a little girl was along, was slim to none. I purchased the muzzle loader so we would have a better chance of connecting with a nice buck and we have been successful several times. Usually if she doesn't hunt with me I will hunt with my bow. This past year my daughter now 13 yrs old was the one toting the muzzle loader during deer season. An opportunity never presented itself so she went empty handed, but wait til next year!!!

Nice, teach the youngins while there little and the'll make awesome hunters as they get older.

I just picked up a 50cal traditions inline, a 50cal winchester inline and a 54cal thompson hawkin blackpowder rifles for $100 with all the accessories, like the balls/sabots, gun powder and cleaning stuff. The PO misses didn't want the guns in the house so it was beer money for him. I never shot the blackpowder stuff yet but soon i will. I need to get into bow hunting next.

The brow tines on the last buck are bigger than any G2s or G3s on most bucks in all of Florida!
Does anyone on the forum hog hunt?

I'm healed up enough from two shoulder surgery's to pick up the stick bow's again. Will try to use them this year,but my flintlocks always start whinning when I leave the house without them. I'll be hunting both the Port Austin area and Escanaba and I hope to see deer like you have! Nice job!
