Hello from southwest Virginia

Hello everyone. I'm from the southwestern corner of Virginia. I've been a visitor here from time to time for a while, but I finally decided to join up. I don't have a cub right now, but I used to use my Dad's 67 up until two years ago when he traded it for a camper. I didn't have the money to buy it off of him, but now I wish I'd borrowed the money. I really really miss that cub. I've got four acres to care for and doing it with riding mowers is mighty time consuming! That's not to mention that cubs have a great variety of attachments that I can use.

That being said, I'm starting to shop around for a cub.

I really like the forum and website. You have my compliments! And, I'm glad to be here!

Welcome to the Forum and good luck with your Cub hunt. You should get up to Boss Hog's tomorrow and you will meet a lot of local Cub enthusiasts that can help you with a lot more ears to the ground.

I just took a look at the map and it is about a 4 hour drive to David's over in Randolph. They make the States a LOT smaller up here!

I use a 111 and 112 too. I would hate to take care of 4 acres with them. A Cub will make your life easier.

Thank you everyone for the great welcome! I would love to make the trip out to Randolph, but I'm afraid I just can't make it this time. And yes, it is about a four hour drive for me.

Maybe next year I can make it, and maybe even have my own cub to take with me.

I also informed my Dad of my decision to get another cub in the family. He recommended a Super A because they have more power than a cub, but I think that's a little more tractor than what I need.

But, I haven't figured out exactly what type of cub I need just yet. I would like one that could pull the Woods 59 mower, and Dad says the old cub's can't handle them. I don't know. I also want a plow, disc, push blade, and bush hog.

I've got a lot of research to do, and I know you all have the information here for me to find.

My wife's uncle across the street has a Cub, in fact it is the one that got me onto this bug.. kind of infected me with the Cub Virus.. :lol: He too says the Cub isn't much for anything... but I gotta wonder cause he has had it now for almost 30 years... so he must like it

A well tuned Cub with a good sound engine can handle most mowing chores from all that I understand. From the 42" bush hog type of mower to the larger 59" finish mowers, the Cub can do it nicely. But don't for a moment think that it is going to perform like a 25 hp or more tractor cause it won't. The Cub when used properly within it's operating envelope is a great tractor.. after all it was designed for the 40 acre and under farm, meant to do all that the truck garden farmer, tobacco farmer and others who farmed in this size acreage needed done.

Many of us regularly use our Cubs to plow snow, landscape our yards, grade/level private roads, plow, harrow, cultivate our gardens and harvest crops. A number of us use our Cubs to pull ground driven manure spreaders, potato diggers and other implements. So, if you are really wanting a Cub, do your due diligence.. do the research, ask our members what they do with their Cubs, how they handle the 59" mowers etc., and get a good feel for what year/style Cub you want. There is a slight horsepower difference from the original Cubs that were introduced in 1947 and the Cubs at the end of the production run in the 70's ... but I don't think that is going to make a lot of difference. With a good well tuned engine a Cub should be able to handle a 59" finish mower.

I appreciate that information. It sounds like a Cub is just what I'm looking for. My Dad didn't like his cub near as much as I liked his cub. I guess it got me hooked on them.

I will watch the message boards to see what comes available. Hopefully it won't be too long before I'm able to get one.

Thank you all for the welcome and hospitality. I'm getting really excited about the chance to get another cub. I do think I'd rather have one of the older versions. I definitely want to get some kind of mower, preferably a Woods 59, and a push blade. With the grade my land has, I will probably also need wheel weights and probably chains for the winter. A plow, disc, and sickle bar mower would also be nice if I can find them.

I want to say "Thanks" to all you fine folks. You have took me right in and made me feel welcome and I really appreciate that. That's just one more reason why I should get a cub!

Right now I'm just looking around for one. I could have gotten a 49 about 5 years ago, but I passed on it. All it needed was a starter, and it had a good price. It's gone now.

I'll keep looking. In the meantime I'm going to finish repainting my John Deere 111 and paint my 112. They are good machines, and in good shape except that the 112 quits when it gets hot for some reason. I think its the fuel filter. Anyway, they'll do the job until I can get me a cub.

Welcome to the forum! Tractors are about like anything else, lots of choices! As previosly noted, do your homework and get "whatever floats your boat"! Once you make a decision I recommend you start with the "What to look for when buying a cub" information on the cub FAQs. This link may be helpful as well.... lot's of information on here!
