Tiling the wet spot.

Approximately 200 feet of hand dug 16" deep trench for a 4" drainage tile.


Managed to cut the electric dog fence. Top of the slope looking down.


Side view of trench area. Seepage starts at the tp of the draw. Area has been permanently wet. Planning on putting part of a garden on opposite slope.

Looking good. That much digging gets to be exercise.

No gym membership for me.

Wet, so wet that the Cub Cadet would get stuck when trying to mow up hill. Used to use a puch mower to mow the area or with the Cub Cadet mow down hill then drive around.

No rocks encountered. Easy digging. Biggest problem was the clay stuck to the spade, making the spade very heavy. About 6 hours digging time over 3 days.

great job, that is a lot of work that only people familiar with a spade and shovel truly appreciate.

Bottom 100 feet of tiling (plastic tubing with sock) installed. Upper half of trench is still open. Appears to be draining about ½ gallon a minute after being trenched for 3 days. First day of open trench, appeared to be draining about 1 to 2 gallons a minute.

Daily checking condition of soil. This morning still have one spot with water standing above the soil near the upper end. Will have to dig another 10 or 15 foot long trench for an additional lateral.

Total cost. About $130- or $140-. Biggest cost was about $108- for the tubing plus the cost of the “Y“ fittings.
