When I purchased my Super A there were a few items that need repair. The last thing that needs help is the oil pan. There are two valves for checking the oil level. The second one is OK, but the one where the oil level should be checked is broken, and I can't seem to turn a bit. I did see replacements for those on a site, but my question is do these just unscrew from the oil pan, or do you have to take the oil pan off? Has any one had to replace the ones on theirs or other letter series?
The pan has a dent in it anyway, so if it has to come off I might just as well take it in and have it heated and pressed back flat. But if I can just replace the check valves then I won't have to take the pan off until I can get other things under control.

Jason, I just put my oil pan on a few days ago and now I can't look, but this picture shows the petcock that screws in. My oil pan was beat up pretty bad, I just beat it out with a hammer and a long punch turned upside down to use the bigger head end to bump out the dents. It had a few holes in it which I brazed up.

Well from that picture it just looks screwed in. I just didn't want to take the vice grips to it until I knew what I was up against. Now I think I can order one and go a head. However if anyone else can chime in that would be great.

Assuming they are the same as on the H and M, they just screw in, but may be pretty tight. I have seen dipstick replacements, but have my doubts as to how well they work.

I had not seen that, but I was really not interested in that anyway. Just having the right petcock would be fine by me. I am going to order one and then try to get this joker out. I just hope I don't cause more damage.
