Is it still too early to plant Silver Queen?

I raise Silver King corn for the retail market. I have a piece of paper from the University of Tennessee Department of Agriculture that says I am suppose to know what I'm talking about. I have an Applicators certificate that allows me to buy and use the chemicals that the home gardener can't buy. The use of pesticides and herbicides can be beneficial for a good harvest. The use also should be safe if used properly according to the EPA and other agencies. However the use of such products without cause is just plain STUPID! First and foremost is to identify the pest or weed. Second is to evaluate the damage that 'may' happen. That has to be weighed against the cost and dangers that might occur. Choosing the correct product for a specific problem can be as easy as talking to your County Extension Agent. Look at your local garden center and you'll see dozens of pesticides and herbicides. You don't know anything about the product until you have read the little book on the back side cover to cover. Do you know when to apply to not harm bees and beneficial insects? Maybe not. OK I'll get off the box for now. Please, don't use chemicals indiscriminately!

Planted two rows of Silver Queen, this afternoon, along with two other varieties. Need to top dress the early corn plantings, tomorrow. Ed

This corn is up,about an inch tall, so, conditions were ok, for planting it. Ed

My sq never did come up.---too wet/cold that week, plus the seed was old!---none of the late corn here looks worth a damn! thanks; sonny

Mine was poking through today and the germination looked pretty good. I think I planted Thursday or Friday so that is not bad. The downpour yesterday helped. I also noticed some sunflowers poking through, too. The weather has been very warm. March April, May all record or near-record warm months.

My first planting of Bodacious is up about 6 inches. Second planting is just peeking through.

It will be late corn for me this year, just got the first rows of last years left over seed in and will look for some silver queen for the last of it. Question, does any one plant their sunflower in the same row as there corn?

I took a chance and planted when the oak leaves were as big as a squirrel's ear it is an Old Farmers Almanac suggestion. First planting of corn, squash, beans and cukes, was on April 20. Mystique is an early cool soil variety from Johnny’s seed, June 7, and it is 32" tall.
