IH float adjustment
Trying to get clear in my head between the shop manual and the instructions Steiner puts in their carb kit. Want to get it as close as possible first time out. Steiner says measure from the gasket. Manual looks like without gasket in the diagram. Can someone give me a good rule of thumb on the IH float for a measurement with or without the gasket? I will write it in my manual for future reference. For example, if I have the carb top inverted so the float is all the way "up", how far from the gasket to the bottom of float? Or is there a better measure?

Dave, Measure without the gasket. With the needle valve closed, it is 1.4" from the flange to the top of the float. With the float dropped, the measurement is 1.6". Also make sure the float is centered in the bowl anf that there is not a lot of slop in the hinge area. I made a little Al jig with those two dimensions on it, but calipers are easy to use also.

Thanks Bob! Gonna have to dust off my algebra/geometry and convert your metrics to what I got. My tools are as old as my tractors...they don't do tenths!

Well....that weren't so tough. Your measurement jives with the 1 13/32 in the manual AND the 3/16 drop. I can handle that and appreciate the clarification!!!

Hi Bob,
I am working on this Carb float adjustment piece, doing a tune up.... the gasket should be in place but your measuring from carb not the gasket correct?

My edit on that old post was confusing. You want to measure from the metal. It's easier to do without the gasket in place.
