How Much Does a Cub Weigh?

Retired flatbed trucker would like to know.....

Without attachments or water in tires. Funny how I can't seem to find this bit in formation. I'm going to trailer my 1948 Cub more than 1000 miles and do not want to guess. Of course my first stop will be at a public scale to make sure but I want to know the weight before I get that far along.

Sure I know this little guy ain't heavy but I like to be precise in things. No guessing.

Just the basic Cub weighs 1400 lbs with starter, lights, and battery. Add more for hydraulics, attachments, weights, etc.

good to know.
For hauling my 51 to the tug, I'll have rear weights, hydraulics, 42 belly mower, less than 1/2 tank fuel.
Should be lighter than your weight you listed.

I've hauled it plenty times on 1 hour trips, the 8 hours to tug had me worried a bit.

I weighed my 1949 at a tractor show/pull about 2 years ago and it has hydraulics, no weights, no attachments, and about 3 gallons of gas. It was 1394 by their scales.

My '48 does have a blade (moldboard) and wheel weights but that's all I bought it last year at a farm in Oregon where it was parked at the street. I have all the original manuals and also manuals for three attachments. Unfortunately only one of those three remain with the machine. I runs quite well. No visible exhaust but some idiot had been running it without an oil filter and an jury rigged filter cannister cover that leaked. It has ignition and headlights. Clutch doesn't grab or slip. It stops when you push on the brakes. Hydraulics OK. All the sheet metal parts and radiator covering are in top shape. I just wish it had a shaft out the front for a pump. Isn't there a side mount provision for a belt drive or something on Cubs? Maybe I can rig something there.

I paid the guy $1600 for it. Down here where I live in eastern San Diego county tractors are scarce and lots more expensive. I'm not complaining. I've seen some real rolling junk yards for sale for $2200 or more.

I live in the high desert of California where there is lots of cholla cactus so I will be manufacturing a set of iron wheels for my cubbie to eliminate the down time from flats. My hobby is blacksmithing anyway so now I have something useful to make.

Do Cubs have a common oil sump for final drive and tranny or are they separate?

Now that I know the weight I can plan on an ordinary two axle car trailer to tote the thing. The weights and blade can go in the bed of the pickup.

I now have a Farmall Cub. Life is good.

A Mott flail sounds like it would be the ideal mower for your needs. Mine will be mounted on one of my cubs at the tug if you want to look one over. No, I am not trying to sell it, I use it all the time.

No, the tranny and finals do not have a common oil supply. they are all separate.

Assuming your trailer is the same most of us have with 3500 pound axles, it is plenty for a cub with weights, blades, etc. with no need to remove them, but I strongly suggest brakes on your trailer. At least on one axle, preferably on both. I have had first hand experience with how hard it is to make an emergency stop when pulling a trailer with no brakes. The average 2 axle utility trailer is about 1500 pounds by itself, and add a cub you have 3000 pounds or more free wheeling behind you.

Congratulations on acquiring your very first Cub.... you may or may not be able to stop at just one... they are pretty addictive. You will be pleased to know that there are a number of members in California and SoCal with at least one other member in the Diego area and one active in Bakersfield. $1,600.00 for a Cub is an average price and judging by some of the prices in the western states, a reasonably good deal for a Cub in good shape. As for you question, the answers you got so far are really bang on. Of course the total weights will vary depending on how each particular Cub is configured and it would change as implements are changed out. However, your Owner's manual would have all of that information. As for your other questions, these are basic answers that are contained in the Owner's Manual. A comfortable evening read that will provide a lot of info on your Cub. As was already suggested a read would be a good thing.

Honey locust trees/thorns in this area. I'm using a tire sealant for tube type tires, purchased from the auto parts store, to seal up punctures. Purchased by the gallon. Install about 1 quart per Cub front tractor tire.

Works quite well. Use to have a weekly flat before installing. Only one flat in about 5 years after installing. The down side is that if you have a flat it's cheaper to buy a new tube than to repair/patch.

Neighbor had his tractor front tires filled with foam.

Seldom if ever have a thorn puncture in tractor rears.
