As I promised.....Drum Roll Please

Postby SundaySailor » Mon Jul 26, 2010 12:20 pm

Image Just a few photos. It looks like the cubfest photo library will not allow a full upload of this Cub Cadet's track from the restoration.

Anyway, this 1st photo shows the rubber headlight rings soaking in water and dish washing detergent.

Here's a photo of the nearly finished tractor: Image

Follow the links, and you can see the rest of the restoration process. BTW, I did have my camera cable (sorry about that Mike!), I was just trying to get more stuff done as I could. It has gotten so hot in my area now, that I've had to postpone much work outside at all.

My next project for this tractor is to add the Johnny Bucket Jr. to the front end. That should make this thing quite useful in my opinion. Oh, I also have the IH snow/dirt scrape blade I'm working on restoring. I'm now down to the blade part by itself.

Thanks for all the help on this project folks. It has been greatly appreciated.

Geez. I forgot to put the link in! http://photos.cubfest.com/thumbnails.php?album=1017

Though trillions and trillions of eyes have been watching the skies for as long as human memory exists, no gods nor angels have been seen or documented outside of religion. The number of spaceships being sighted however has become much more prevalent.

Todd, I believe it was the IH 935. Seems like that rings a bell to me.

I just saw IH white from Valspar in the store. It was in a rattle can. Cap color looked very off-white to me.

If that is the same paint you used, It looks awesome next to federal yellow.

This was the real IH Iron-gard (sp?) that I bought from C&G. Yes, it was more expensive, but I only wanted to do this one time, and one time only.

I was very pleased with the results. I do have the decals to go on the tractor, but I want it to cure out fully first. But then again, I like the looks of the tractor just like it is.

So you used a sprayer?
I have Federal yellow Iron guard with the reducer and hardener for the yellow on my 60 loboy. I also have a new dual respirator, and a new High Density Low Pressure sprayer.
Any tips you can offer?

The IH white does look great with the cub cadet yellow on the newer cub cadets.(wide frames) I use the cub cadet beige along with the cub cadet yellow on the narrow frames. I got the valspar paint from TSC.

It looks to me that valspar is discontinuing there tractor paint colors. They only have basic paint colors at TSC now and i didn't see any tractor colors listed. The only yellow i saw was bumble bee yellow. But they had two off white colors that matched the IH white and the cc beige.(hoods)
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Don't know about Valspar in the US, but Princess Auto has just begun to stock Valspar rattle cans and gallons...

The paint I used was indeed the IH 935 Iron-gard (spelling correct), and the Federal Yellow. Both were in rattle cans. The side panels, hood, front end clips and some other parts were put into an electrolysis tank (idea of Rudi - Thanks Rudi!).

The parts came out very clean and only had to be pressure washed and mild wire wheeling. It did take a good while for the parts to work in the electrolysis tank due to the large volume of parts as opposed to the anode sizes I had to work with.
