Farmall Super A, AV, 1939 - 1954

Nope, don't have/didn't get/can't afford a Super A, but my buddy Gord has one, a very nice one to be exact. It has a Cater UT carb on it. We are having starvation problems with it. Tractor will only run with full choke. Decrease the choke, tractor dies. Seems to be a repeat of Gord's 52/53 Super A. I know that it needs new gaskets.. bowl gasket is brittle and thinning, manifold gasket needs to be replaced. I bet that there is crud in the jet ... but I gotta be able to find it. Been looking at the TC-39B Parts Catalog and have found the Carter Carb on pages 39 to 41. I remember reading somewhere on the forum about the UT carb but for the life of me, I can't find the threads. I see the main metering jet in the drawing but haven't a clue where it actually is in the carb. Will be going out again tomorrow with Gord and try to get this thing figured out. Any tips would be appreciated.

Hi Rudi, I would try replacing the manifold gasket first, sounds like its sucking air upstream of the main jet. Just a thought, good luck. Chuck

Chuck:
Definitely gonna need the manifold gasket as the one on there is marginal at best. I know it is sucking some air.. not sure if that is the whole problem or not.
Art:
It has been a few years since the SA has been run much and the carb was pretty grimy. Cleaned it a bit with aerosol carb cleaner but it needs a good soaking and probably a rebuild is a good idea, then it will be done and Gord can forget about it. Could you send a PM with what you have available? Gord is over tomorrow so I will know ifn he got the rebuild kit ordered or if he is looking for other options. Thanks.
