100 Problems with 2nd Gear

Postby hannahscub » Wed Aug 18, 2010 4:42 pm

I have a 100 that has trans issues. Works OK in 1st, 3rd and R. When I put it into 2nd gear it won't go anywhere and the engine pulls down and wants to die until you push the clutch. It feels like there are two gears working against each other or 2nd and R are wanting to work at the same time. Before I pull off the top plate with the shift lever I thought that some of you folks could tell me what may be causing this or what to look for. Thanks, Ed

Time to pull the top off and check for a bent/broken/loose shifting fork.

There are two gears ingaged at the sametime yup its a shifter fork or the lever were the ball engages on the fork something can be broke or wornout there. Just pull the seat bracket and top cover on the tranny and post the pics, we want to look too??? I'll bet on the fork were the shift ball engages is bent at the rails.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

BigBill,
It's not quite that easy on a 100, the tractor has to be split to get the top cover off because most of it is under the "tunnel". You might (key word is might) get the bolts out of the cover, but you can't get in to the shifting forks. Been there, tried that.
