I've had the luck and privelage of moving in/onto my wife's father's old dairy farm. Until this year it has been vacant for around 3 years as her father moved down to Georgia. I've been really busy with the work of fixing up a 200 year old house and a farm that had just been sitting for 3 years the intention being to have hay, vegetables and someday dairy goats to make cheese with. This spring we took the time and money and planted 34 apple trees for a small orchard since it was something we both always wanted. And since we would now have all that orchard to mow it was finally my excuse to get a cub ! I bought a Lo Boy that I thought had a Woods 59 on it. The tractor was ugly and didn't run when I bought it, some carburator and electrical work remedied that after a few hours. It was put straight to work (after a thorough greasing) cutting the hay field areas that we were going to plant the orchards, then the lawn then the one pasture. Anyway the "Woods 59" is actually a IH C-3. I am now in the slow process of giving it some new paint (in between making hay, re-doing the house, getting the other equipment operational etc).
Why did I want a cub you ask ? Well my Grandpa had one (late 40's). My Nana refered to the tractor as "the red dobbin". It was the tractor I learned to drive on first. It's sickle bar mowed the hay fields, the plow and harrows prepared the vegetable field, the snow plow kept the driveway clear in the winter, the belt drive mixed concrete and cut wood. My Grandpa's cub is now owned by my cousins and is garage kept and used to plow snow. As far as I know unfortunately the plows, harrows, sickle etc is up in my grandpas old horse barn since atleast the early 90's. I'm hoping to aquire the equipment that was my Grandpa's back and then my intention is to get a regular cub to do vegetables with and to rake hay with, I'm on the hunt for a 75-79.

My forum name comes from the fact that the farm came with alot of Olivers from the father in law. I love the 88 !

Here is a quick run down of the farm:
The home farm is 30 acres:
about 15 ac in fields
about 7 ac in pastures
and the rest is wooded.

With it I'm operating about 15 acres on the adjacent neighbors, about 10 on another farm about a mile away, and have about 30 acres of fields that I have permission to use (I just haven't gotten time to get in there and work those fields yet).

Equipment I have:
Tractors:
Oliver 88 (Row Crop-Wide front)
Oliver 77 (tricycle with trip bucket loader)
Oliver 70 (tricycle...I haven't gotten this running yet)
Oliver 70 (tricycle...was my wife's grandfather's tractor...basically just parts or a MAJOR restoration project)
International Cub (Lo Boy)

Equipment:
New Holland 268 (square baler with kicker)
New Holland 488 (haybine)
Oliver Manure spreader (I've converted this to a functioning woodwagon, that will need to get redone as time allows)
New Holland Manure Spreader (needs a floor and alot of welding)
International C-3 (60 inch finish mower)
Dearborn 14-20 (side delivery rake)
Teddar (I haven't used it haven't given it the once over to even know)
2 old Oliver sickle bar mowers (1 is a parts one and the "good one" is rusted solid and needs alot of work to get back into running condition
1-forage wagon (I'm going to strip it down to a flat bed wagon)
2- running gear for hay wagons (I need to get lumber and hardware and time to build ... borrowed a wagon from a neighboring farmer to do my hay this year)
Oliver 2 Row Corn Planter (Needs taken down to the metal and put back together)

Buildings:
1- 18 cow stanchion dairy barn (New England/Saltbox style) it still has the gear, blocks and grapple over head for doing loose hay
1 300 gallon bulk tank in the milkhouse
1 chicken coop (needs some work and am contemplating making it a garden shed and building a new coop in a better location
1 tool shed (needs new roof, floor, and some structural help)
1 maintenance shop/tractor shed (Still needs some roof work and the one wall fixed.. I've been working on this slowly)

You might want to reserve the weekend of October 8, 9 & 10 and come on up to Cubfest Northeast in Kinderhook, NY. It's just a little over three hours from you. Bring along your Lo-Boy and you'll get some good advice and maybe a little help in keeping it in good working condition.

Unless you're down there for an equipment auction, you're better off in Kinderhook.
