154 Engine

I recently aquired a 154 in a land deal. The serial # is 011864. It has excessive blow by. What year would it be and what
could I expect to spend on a rebuild for it. Or maybe the price of a good used motor.

How long has it been sitting? How old is the motor oil?

I would put in fresh motor oil and some seafoam in the crankcase oil and in a full tank of gas and run it. One tank of gas will tell if it needs rebuilding or the stuck rings will loosen up and reseat. Your talking blowby from the breather and not blue smoke from the exhaust right?

Using seafoam has saved me a lot of work and money so far. It has solved most of my engine problems with blowby and rough running engines. Its no rebuild in a can but it loosens up stucki piston rings and sticky valves. Its also a fuel stabilizer too, so i put it in every fall too.

How much for an engine over haul? No real estimation. You will have to have the engine disassembled and measured before getting prices. Wild guess. Any where from $500- up to $2000-. All depends on what the engine needs. Your labor can be deducted from the wild guess price.

Should be a 1969, started the 154s in 1968.
I would try the seafoam as recommended by BigBill.
Cost of the overhaul depends on what you need to have done. Even with blowby it still may do what you want.
