Tractor Value

Postby daddydip » Fri Aug 27, 2010 9:06 am

I have the opportunity to buy a couple of the old cadet mowers that were more or less built like a snapper mower. My question to those in the know is are they worth anything ,collectably or other wise and which models would be most perfered. thanks in advance.sorry no pictures the computer won't allow, i'm upgrading soon.

The Cadet rear engine rider are not high on the collectible list and parts are hard to find. If they have a fiberglass body, commonly called "bath tubs" they were built by IH (model 60, 85, 95 etc.) and would have more interest than the ones with a metal body built by MTD. The bath tub model 95 is electric (battery) and is more collectable than any of them. Most have a Tecumseh engine. If you are looking for something collectable, any of the IH built Cub Cadets (garden tractors), and the IH or CCC built "Super Garden Tractors" (longer frame, bigger tires) such as 982/84/86, 1872,2072,1912 ect, or any of the diesels (782D, 1512, 1572, 1772 and others).

With a couple of exceptions, the Cadets (Lawn tractors and or rear engine riders) for the most part are not much in demand. The exceptions would be the special "Spirit of 76" model 76 lawn tractor (different than the regular model 76) and the bath tub model 95 electric.

Michael:

I think Paul is pretty much on the money.

I just got to see my very first IHCC RER .. a 60 series with a 6 hp Tecumseh in it. Reason I got to see it, the PO burnt up the generator coils in the magneto/alternator. Mostly fiberglass as Paul said. Interesting if you never saw one before .. but I don't see them as being high demand. What I do see though is that they are viable as a collection completer sort of... something along the lines of the genealogy of the Cub/Cub Cadet family I guess. I would not pay a lot for one..... as I don't see them as a high value item. Just kinda interesting.
