JL, Kodak doesn't allow linking to it from other sites, you can only view it by invitation. As George said, To link to a picture it has to be on a public hosting site, such as Picture Trail, etc.

I did manage to see your pictures, they were a little small, but that is quite a find. It looks a little rough, but if it runs and everything wiorks it is easily worth 3k or a little more. The cubs with trenchers and blades are fairly rare.

What's it worth

Postby Eugene » Fri Apr 08, 2005 12:04 am

What is it worth - I don't know. What is the seller asking for the tractor and equipment?

Not running, looks like at least one rear rim is shot. If the seller didn't start the bidding, I would offer $250.00.

Love the elbow on the end of the exhaust pipe. Now that is a touch of class. If I bought this tractor I would probably wouldn't take the elbow off.

Remember this is just my opinion.

Does the Black Lab come with the purchase? LOL

Does the engine not run, just from needing some TLC or is is stuck? that would be another huge consideration. If would be nice to have for the trencher, even though it looks like the chain needs adjusting and/or replaced.

The first Cub I worked on about 20 years ago looked just like this one here, but was a square nosed front end one and had the same trencher.

Looks like it had the extension for duals, I guess that's what these extensions are for. Then it had what appears to be a nice front blade too, I myself would chance going up to $750, just my opinion too. Cheaper is ALWAYS better. It actaully looks better than the one I got from John P. at least this one has paint, LOL

If you can get it cheap enough....GO FOR IT! It would be a nice project.

John

PS: the last time I rented a trencher for about 8 hours, it cost me about 300 bucks to rent it, might consider that too, if you would need any trench work. OR sell the trencher to someone else.

That one definitely looks like it has been run hard. Note the bent push frame for the blade. I would be looking carefully for cracked or welded castings, all the usual places. The amount of slack in the trencher chain suggests more than a simple chain tightening as well.

On the other hand, the trenchers are fairly rare. So that is a big plus (assuming it is complete and repairable). Depending on the details, John may be overly generous.

The Auburn trencher (just the trenching part) looks remarkably like the pair of Bus Brown trenchers I had at one time. The ones I had were real man killers... fwd but manual skid steer. The chain is adjusted by lengthening the boom. There should be a hex nut on about a 1 1/2" threaded part to telescope the boom.

Actually, I think John may even be a little low on the value (but I'd try to get it cheaper), since it should have a Howard speed reducer on the left side. Trenchers have to travel real slow!

Actually, Auburn had their own speed reducer transmission that fit between the bell housing and the transmission. The Auburn speed reducer also had its own PTO drive so the trencher wasn't powered through the speed-reduced original transmission. Details in the next Red Power magazine. :)

In the top picture I see what looks like an Auger. Could it have a post hole digger also???????

The auger is part of the trencher. The chain brings the dirt up to the front of the trench that is being cut and the auger pushes it to the side.

Ok Thanks Jim. It makes good sense when you describe it that well. I learn more and more every day on this site. Upon occasion I learn the same thing more than once
