Hey Folks. I've just found a Cub Cadet 1912 advertised locally with a 60" mowing deck for $700.00. I have no idea of what these things look like, parts availability nor the value. But, the 60" deck does seem intriguing. Could someone help me out on this? I'd like to see photos, and find out what the engine, drive train, and just about any other information I can get my hands on as I'd like to go see the unit this weekend.
TIA,
Rick

Though trillions and trillions of eyes have been watching the skies for as long as human memory exists, no gods nor angels have been seen or documented outside of religion. The number of spaceships being sighted however has become much more prevalent.

I can't tell you much about the later Cub Cadets, but a 1912 was built by Cub Cadet Corp. (MTD) in 1985 & 86. It is a called a Super Garden tractor, and is basically a yellow and white version of a red 982 that was built by both IH and CCC from 1980 to 1985. It is a hydrostatic drive tractor. CCC used various brands and horse power engines in the yellow/white tractors they built during this time, so it could have a Kohler, Onan, B&S. The 982 had a 19.6 HP Onan, and I would say the 1912 probably has the same (there was also a 1712, 1512, 1914). CCC would also add an option to a tractor and assign a different model number. As an example an IH 982 had a rear PTO, turning brakes, and front hydraulic outlets as options. CCC would add any of these as standard equipment to the basic tractor and give it a different model number. The 60" deck can cause some scalping problems if your yard is not good and flat.

Much Appreciated!
Paul,
Thank you so much for the reply. Any chance you'd know the resale of one of these units? I'd really like to go see this unit this weekend, and see what's up with it. If it is in decent shape, I just may make an offer. My thinking is that this would make a great addition to my current Farmall (1950) Cub.

If it is indeed a yellow/white version of a 982, and the 60" deck is any good, $700 is cheap. A good 982 with any options can sell for more than 3 times that, and a good used 60" deck will sell for $250- $400. Now with out seeing this tractor or knowing the condition, and not knowing how much it is like a 982 (other than they are both called Super Garden Tractors), I cannot say what it is worth, but if it runs, and drives, and mow's, $700 sounds very good...... and cheap. But you look at it and make your own call. I collect IH built Cub Cadets, and a 982 is the only red one (of the 82 series) that I would like to have.
I just checked this site, http://ihregistry.com/ref/mtdref.html, and it says the tractor is basically a 982 (Factory # 14X982), has a 19.9 HP Onan, hydro drive, hydraulic lift, front hydro ports or outlets, and could be had with a 38", 44", or 50" deck, and probably the 60" (usually made by Haban I believe).

Thanks Paul...
I will try my best to make an appointment to go see this one tomorrow if possible. Sounds like a good investment to me, not to mention being able to mow with it.

Paul....
I plan on going to see the tractor tomorrow morning. I've talked with the owner on the phone, and he said he has a bunch of extra parts to go with the tractor. He also said it runs and moves. Wish me luck.
