Original creeper drive info

Postby keithd » Tue Sep 14, 2010 8:56 pm

Can anybody tell me where to get info on a creeper drive for an Original.
I'm not sure how to tell if its good as it came off a parts tractor.
I'm not sure if to keep it or sell it.

I'm not sure there is any way to tell, other than to bolt it in and try it.

Are the creeper drives all the same for the early gear drive Cadets?

The Original used a Danco UD-6 creeper made by Danuser. All other models used one from IH (not sure who made it). The only difference in the IH model is the length and shape/orientation of the shift lever for use in a narrow frame or wide frame model Cub Cadet. CCC/MTD used one in the 4-5 models with a gear drive transmission that had an extruded aluminum case, but used the same internal parts that were in the IH model. Not much information available on the UD-6, and even fewer parts, but the parts breakdown is in the CPE-3 Parts manual on on the online parts look-up under attachments (the last item in the list) Try here.

Thanks Paul I tried to get into the attachment you gave but wouldn't let me in.
But I pulled the top off & found the one gear at the front of the slider is worn & won't mesh with the front drive gear.
I don't know if it's worth much but I'll have it at cubarama next week.
See ya there.

the small gear #7 gets worn but since it rides over wider gear #32 it should still work unless the teeth are completely missing. I just replaced the oil seal(NLA) that I found at an IH Case dealer.

I went out to install the oil seals(#1 IH475 625 R91) and ended up getting one in and ruining the other. It looks like the only way to get the rear oil seal in is to some how get spacer #2 off and install the spacer the put it in. I can get the seal on with the lip out which slides over #2 easily. I tried heating #2 to expand it but it's rusted fast. I put the seals in boiling water and that's how I got the front one in but t was a struggle. I located a source of the seals and am getting 2 more. I'm open to suggestions on how to get the rear seal in.

I found replacement seals but still haven't figured how to get the front one in.

My advice is don't tear a creeper apart unless last resort.

Will a creeper gear assembly from say a 102 fit a 108?

As Paul mentioned

I imagine the shift lever could be fabricated... if the creaper gear and drive shaft will fit the 108... :?:

Indeed the shift lever could be and was fabricated. Part number from IH: Creeper extension handleIH-390868-R1
Here's a photo: Image

You could remove the knob on the end of the existing short lever, install the new extension, and then replace the knob on the now extended lever. You might still have to bend the lever a little for clearance on the wide frame. Some of the wide frame creeper drives already had the longer lever, so I would expect some kind of clearance or change over to the shorter lever would be needed to go from a wide frame to narrow frame.

I bet this is clear as mud now.   Oh, the 102 should fit the 108.
Though trillions and trillions of eyes have been watching the skies for as long as human memory exists, no gods nor angels have been seen or documented outside of religion. The number of spaceships being sighted however has become much more prevalent.

Rick:

Thanks for confirming the 102 creeper will fit a 108 as long as I can get an extension or fabricate one.. (yeah, I think I can do that)... There is one available that I am trying to do a deal on. But needed to know if I could put it on the 108. Thanks :D
