Woods mower bracket question

Postby 56FordGuy » Sat Sep 18, 2010 8:58 pm

I just mounted a Woods mower deck on my 185. I used the mounting brackets and drawbar that came off of my 154 that had the Woods deck on it. My problem is where the arms that come from the back attach to the deck on either side. The brackets/ arms hit my 13.6-16 turf tires if I lift the deck much at all. It appears that the brackets welded to the deck that the pins go through need to move inward a couple of inches.

I'm not sure what the 'right' way to fix this is. Do I need to use the drawbar and deck mounting linkage that came off of my 185 with the 3260 deck? It did not connect the deck to the drawbar, so there were no arms to interfere with the tires. I thought the mounting brackets were specific to the deck, and not the tractor, which is why I switched them.

Any suggestions?

If you only need a couple inches to get enough clearance I would rig up some spacers , and bolt them in between the arms brackets to move them in.---that would be quick and not alter the deck,---BUT if the altering is not a problem then weld some new brackets in right where you need them!
I have the skinny tires on my 185, and have all kinds of room between tires! thanks; sonny

Does you 185 have the tire spacers to increase the width between the tires? Needed for the woods mower.

You do not have the wide balloon tires.

No,---I have the skinny 8.4 diamond tread tires on mine, and would not want the fat ones!---too hard on the sloppy clutch splines!---I also dont do any pulling/pushing with it, ONLY mowing,--I want to keep the splines as long as I can on the main clutch shaft, and mine are not that great! thanks; sonny

Folks, we have a solution.

The brackets for my Woods deck have multiple holes where the arms connect to the drawbar bracket, to position the deck closer to the front or to the rear of the machine. I had the deck positioned too far to the rear, in order to use a B210 belt to drive the mower. My 154 had the narrow tires, so clearance was not an issue. I tried to use the same belt on my 185, and that's what caused the problem.

The solution, as embarrassingly simple as it is, was to move the deck forward and switch to a B225 belt. The clearance issues seem to be solved now.
