Clutch question

When starting my 55 LoBoy, if I push down the clutch it puts a drag on the
starter. Crankshaft endplay is well wwithin limits. From what I can see
through the acess hole things look OK. Free travel on pedal is right, and
the transmission is quiet and shifts smoothly. No noises from throwout
bearing at any position of pedal. I am guessing the problem is pressure
plate or throwout bearing. Also, does the clutch disc stop completely
when the clutch is engaged? Appreciate any suggestions - don't want to
split it if I have another way out. Thanks (Rockford clutch)

Count your blessings... it sounds completely normal. You'll notice when the engine is idling, pushing the clutch will slow the engine slightly. This is because of the graphite TOB and is completely normal. Same thing for the starter... that's why they recommend starting with the foot off the clutch, unlike most automotive applications.

The clutch disk should stop completely when it is DISengaged, but it may take a couple seconds.

Thanks george. I wasn't sure if the graphite would deteriote over time.
This tractor was used very little. When I said engaged, I was thinking
