That's good to know! Do you guys ever go to any shows? I plan on the Corn Festival in my hometown of Wilmington and hopefully a few more.
I have the Barnyard Bash Cubfest every May and Bigdog has the Cub Tug every July. Those are two of the closest Cub events to you and would be excellent events for you to attend to learn a lot about Cubs. Check out these two web sites http://www.barnyardbash.com and http://www.cubtug.com

The oil you used will be okay. You need to replace the filter. You can get one at NAPA.
Thank you very much as well! That's what I wanted to hear. Looks like a manual lift is what I'm going to find. I'll go to Napa in the morning and get a new filter. Do I just ask for a 1949 Cub filter or is it actually a filter for something else that happens to fit?

When you go to NAPA tell them you want a NAPA 1153 filter. It should come with the gasket. When you put the filter cover back on just snug it down. If you get it too tight you will warp it and it will leak until you put a new cover on.

Charging system:
This is how I checked it. I put a voltmeter to the new battery and it read 6.2 volts. I started the tractor and re-checked and it said 6.18 volts while it was running. I assumed it was not working. Well I started the tractor many times throughout the day playing with it and tonight the battery still says 6.2 volts. So maybe it is working. I'm going to have to look into it more.
My lights do not work though and I suspect the switch as of now. Is there a wiring diagram for the switch itself? There is a wire on it the looks to be burnt off.

I just figured out from the engine block numbers that my tractor is a 1948 instead of a 1949.

Welcome - you've found a home. While you've got the filter out of the canister, take a small hand held mirror and light and check the bottom of the canister for a buildup of crud. There's a "pipe" coming out the bottom of said canister that has a "wingnut" on the bottom - take that off and then you can flush out the canister with solvent - I use brake cleaner. I have a '47 I use to plow a 1000' driveway with manual lift - works just fine although I need chains to get sufficient traction. Have fun. Craig

Well I got the new oil filter in okay, but I couldn't figure out how to get the air filter out. .....I gave Willard a good bath so he looks a little younger now.

The "air filter" doesn't come out. In order to clean it you must remove the entire housing and soak in kerosene. Make sure you clean out the tube between the housing and engine, too. http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/Cub%20 ... e%2024.jpg
