107 hyda trany surging

Postby oldiron29 » Sun Oct 17, 2010 6:45 am

Hi all, Have a 107 hydrastatic, when you move lever to go it will start out slow and than speed up with out moving lever. What cause's this sudden jump in speed? Can it be adjusted? Do I need to clean or replace hydrastatic valves?
It is in the shop and would like to shape this tractor up for next years mowing. thanks oldiron29

No, you need to repair the linkage. Go here, http://www.ihcubcadet.com/IHCCFAQ/ and look at #14, and it will answer your questions (there are several pages). Although it talks about a model 1250 on the first page, the procedures are the same for all IH built Cub Cadets with a hydro transmission (except your 107 doesn't have a removable top or "tunnel" cover). The transaxle will have to be removed from the tractor, and I reccommend you buy a service manual that covers your 107.

Paul's advice is good, as usual.
Here is a link Paul had previously had posted http://cubfaq.com/trunionrepair.html that I found very helpful.
BTW, I did not remove the tranny on my 149, I just removed the fenders and welded it up with my MIG and dressed it with a file.

Dave,
Your 149 has the advantage of a removeable driveline tunnel cover that gives you additional room to work. The tunnel on his 107 is fixed.

Hi all here is a follow up on my 107. I pulled the transaxle and followed repair advice in supplied link. welded the truion and filed it down.
Put it back together and test drive it around the yard. I can not believe how much difference it made.
thank for the help. oldiron29
