Remington 700's

Postby BigBill » Tue Oct 26, 2010 9:22 am

It was on TV lastnight about the remington 700's having trigger problems and the accidents that were caused but it.

I say to please practice good gun ethics and never point a gun at anything you don't want to shoot. Never, never trust the guns safety. Besafe and enjoy, Bill

They had a recall on that two or three years ago maybe more. Got all 3 of mine fixed. Grump

If I remember right the spring was replaced. I had a friend take care of it for me. I can ask him in a few days.

Due to many QC problems and what they pulled on Baikal and DPMS have caused me to look elsewhere for my firearms needs :x :x

If you have the safety on, pull or bump the trigger then take the safety off, the rifle will fire without pulling the trigger. This is the second time in the last few years this has happened.

I have several 700s and have never had a problem they news people never mentioned anything about the owners adjusting the triggers to lighten trigger pull one of mine is set for a 1and 1/2 lb.pull and i always make sure it's pointed in a safe directions but it has never discharged when closing the bolt it's a 220 swift and a LOT of groundhogs have been dispatched by it.

I just picked up Gray Cub a new youth model 700, have they been changed since this problem or not ?
It's not been fired yet and if there's any chance of a problem it'll find a new home pretty quick.

Jim, and all, you should read this plain talk about the issue and note the trigger pull recommendation.

Thanks Bob, very good reading there. Now that the word is out
I have a older friend who's had his 700 go off twice on him in the past few years. Can't wait to see if he's had the trigger trimed on it.... Knowing him chances are it'll be yes.

Yogie, Heres what the FREE FIX was about. Cycle the bolt then Put the gun on SAFE (Empty chamber) Then open the bolt. If the bolt opens while on safe your OK. The problem in the OLDER 700's was the fact you had to put it on FIRE to open the bolt. We sent ours someplce in Ohio to have the safety reworked or replaced. Don't remember which. It was the older series 700s . If you have to put it on FIRE to open the bolt contact them. Hope this clears things up a bit. I love my 700's and never had a problem. Grump.

My brand new back in '94 remington 700 in 338win mag has never had a problem yet. But i do practice good gun handling all the time. I wouldn't want to see how many houses the 338 round could go thru with its 4,000ft lbs at the muzzle and the muzzle energy of a 30-06 at 200yds. Before it stops. i've seen it go thru 18" diameter trees at 170yds. The damage it could do? I've seen it pick up blackbears three feet off the ground and make a thud when they come back to earth after there flight. I'm very very careful with all guns. I choose the 338wm after a few close encounters with blackbears being within 10' away and they have no clue i'm there on the ground with them. I'm not built for climbing nor speed too. Those days are long gone.

The accuracy of this 700 in 338wm is unbelieveable too. At 100yds i can take out the "X" with two rounds thru the same hole using new winchester super X ammo. This gun is so accurate it should of been a SWAT rifle or a sniper rifle its that good. I hit a quarter sized knot at 170yds with no gun rest, it was hand held. My older brother told me i missed it as we walked up to the tree and i said i didn't miss it, then we seen the back of the tree blown out were the bullet exited.

With my rifle being this good i'm afraid to let it out of my sight. When i give up hunting soon it will be donated to the local SWAT team maybe it will save someones life.
