Lo-Boy serial # tag question

Postby Lt.Mike » Fri Oct 29, 2010 12:40 am

Hi guys, sorry I kind of fell off the face of the earth for awhile but I'm back up for air, and need a little help with a question.
I have a '58 cub Lo-Boy that is (over)due for its second restoration. I have been collecting replacement and restoration parts for the last couple of years planning to do a more proper restoration.
The prior owner did a half hearted restoration by sand blasting the tractor and repainting. He must have been overeager to get going with that blaster as he blasted right over the unprotected gauges and Serial number plate.
Thanks to the folks at TM tractor parts I have new gauges among many boxes of new emblems and other assorted parts waiting for a restoration.
I also want to replace the serial # tag as that would really set it off. The tractors true number is thankfully still readable being a low 4 digit '58 Lo-Boy #.
Ok heres where I get to my question.
The replacement tags come blank. My serial will read " J 68**" and that I'll try to punch in as correctly as I can. I think the idle # is 1900 (?) but the big question is how should the model read?
On the regular cubs it says "F Cub" and appears printed on instead of being stamped. What would it be for my Lo-Boy?
Am I over thinking this, should it just be "Lo-Boy"? Or "International Cub Lo-Boy"?
Anyone have a picture I can copy from?
Any gifted person out there that can reproduce this info for me onto a tag as well as the factory did it?
Thanks in advance, Mike.
(EDIT)
Ok, I'm either tired or blind as I found the pic I need on TM's site.

But now theres another problem as this is the one from ebay thats available.

Anyone know where i can get the two line plate...and with a little luck the IH Lo-Boy printed on it like the one above?

They are available from different sources.

OEM Stamped or Unstamped Serial Number Tag Order Form
Farmall Cub Forever Decals, Emblems, Serial Number Tags

You would have to call Ken at Carter & Grunewald to find out if they are available from CaseIH. But I kinda doubt it.

OEM has a real nice replacement tag for man farmalls. I have used them many times. They have the correct stamps to make it just like the original.Itis best to have them stamp it so it looks right. ity is not cheap but it sounds like you want it correct. They have a form for you to fill out and send to them.

Thanks guys, your right on two accounts, yes I'd like to make it proper and ya it ain't cheap at $49.
wasn't too long ago I cracked open the walet and coughed up $120 for a pair of the stainless Lo-Boy dogleg emblems ($46 each) and a precut set of the old style spark plug wires with the braided covering. The printed and stamped OEM tag will probably have to happen but down the road aways for enough to forget what I spent on the other stuff. I also saw a repo delco remy tag for the starter that will probably happen too.
I'm not sure now what can cost more, a boat, a bike, or a tractor??? Its getting to be an addiction.
Mike.

Does anyone know if OEM Tractor Parts is still around for the tags? I need one of the two line ones stamped and I'm having no luck with their site.
1965 Farmall 140 currently in restoration mode! My great-grandfather purchased new in March of 1966 and it's been in the family ever since.

Website says the online store is closed. You might try 1-800-283-2122 and see if they answer.

They are closed for good. Heard about an auction in August.
