Snow Thrower QA42A

I have recently purchased a nice collection, including a 107, snow thrower, tiller and mower deck. Since snow is just around the corner I wanted to sand down the rust on the single stage snow thrower and then paint it. Can anyone tell me how to get the auger out? Looks to be a trick to working it out. Thanks for your help.

I think you will like the thrower. Gord is raring to go with his. Got new turf tires for the 108 last week so he is just waiting for snow to come and stay.

Here is how I slipped the auger out of my snow thrower so I can sand all and paint. I released the chain tention and then pulled the clevis pin to give even more slack. I secured the port side to a pole in my garage and used a come-a-long on the starborad side to ease the sides out just a quarter inch or so. The auger came right out very easily. I power sanded the inside and various parts and got a coat of primer on. Heading to Tractor Supply tomorrow to pick put the paint. Need to get this done and back together before the snow flies!

Don't they offer special paint for snowblowers so the snow can't / won't freeze to the cold metal? I been using PAM or any other non stick spray. It seems to me when the sun goes down and the temp drops the blower auger seems to always freeze up at this time. Maybe its the dew point that causes this.

I am looking for any tips on using the snow thrower.
I will be mounting it on my 149 and putting chains on.
The snow here can be dry powder, or heavy and wet, or a granular mix with sleet, in other words just about any type is possible.
What can I expect from the snow blower?

That snow blower on a 149 is a great setup. I had the same setup here in Buffalo, NY for many years. I could easily throw snow onto my neighbors driveway, about 40-feet away. The wet/heavy stuff can be a bit of a pain. I used to spray mine down with Armorall or Silicone if we had the wet stuff, and it seemed to keep it moving rather than pack up. The paint that you can get is graphite paint called Slip Plate. Case/New Holland makes it, and it works pretty good. I've used it on mower decks, and it does seem to keep grass from sticking. I know that some of the commercial mowing companies like Exmark and Ferris make teflon paint for mower decks, and I would think that it would work good too.

You don't see many snow blowers around here.
Some years we have almost no snow, some years we get 2 to 3 feet at a time.
I don't like plowing much, the piles are a mess and with deep snow you can only push so much before you have nowhere to push it anymore.
Looks like fun , unless the wind blows it back in your face

EZ Slide is the graphite paint I pruchased from Trarctor Supply. This is a pretty interesting paint. It has a ton of graphite in it and puts an very slick gray coat on the surface. It is very slick and I think it will work great. This stuff goes a long ways so just buy a quart! Also it may not be in the paint section of TSC, it may be over in the power take-off parts for some reason.
