So this weekend I decide to figure out if it's my hydraulic pump leaking fluid into the crankcase or the block is cracked and letting coolant in.
The crankcase was getting higher on oil and it was milky color but no gorilla snot.
I pull the pump, (I've done harder things), and decide to tear it apart . . . IT'S SHOT ! ! !
So far I've been able to find some for a little over $250.00. I don't think I'll trust used ones since they are all 30+ years old. Anybody got a line a a better priced one or am I just gonna have to save up my pennies?

BTW . . . Put a rubber expandable freeze-plug in the pump opening, changed the oil and ran it for a couple of hours and besides some residue, it's clean. It was put up for the winter so I have a while before I need a pump.

Re: GRRRrrrrrrrrrrr . . .
Yeah, I saw those and have always gotten a good deal, but I'm just afraid of a used pump. OH . . BTW, when I got my 185, the hyd filter and housing was missing and the rubber hose was just "jumpered" across. Another one of those GGGRRR moments.
I found a brand new one from a guy that has no use for it for $193.00. I already commited to it but not until next Spring, he said he would sit on it for me. So unless someone has me in their will, I'm going this way for now.
BTW . . . hamiltonbob is awesome to buy from. Quick shipping and he combines multiple items without being told or ask to, A+ A+ guy . . .

Phazer,
Go to Messicks Tractor .com - they should have all the pump parts that you need;
http://www.messicks.com/nhparts/Case/3913.aspx
* Messicks.com
* Case IH Partd
* 185
* Hydraulics
* There are mainly two types of Hydraulis pumps used; a Warner, and an 'other'.
*Warner Hydraulic Pump - #4 Seal 529443R91 $10.50
- Package 529444R92 $50.21
*'Other' Hydraulic Pump - #1 Seal 202996C91 $9.26
- Kit Replacement, see bottom of list for a long list of 'replacement' parts and $.
You have to figure out which type of pump that you have !!!!
I hope that this helps, NJDale

I've worked with hydraulics alot in the past and i'm thinking the bigger pump has more volumne like for more accessories that are hydraulically driven.

Re: GRRRrrrrrrrrrrr . . .
Mines pretty scored up inside and I question whether even $10.00 is worth putting into this pump. It wasn't that hard to remove but by the time I get it in and I want to use it, I don't want to have to do it again. BTW, mine is the "other" more common on numbered cubs Cessna pump.
**ADDED** Also . . . I added up all the gaskets and seal, it comes to somewhere just under $60.00 without shipping. A kit with everything included is probably less but I'm assuming it would be good money after bad.
Thanks for all the suggestions though . . .
