Ever since I saw pictures of them I always thought that they looked cool and wanted to get one someday.
I work at a golf course and one day we had to take something up to the top storage garage were some old pieces of equipment sit and other spare stuff. Back in the one corner I saw an old mower and when I looked closer I saw it was a National. It sat there covered in dust, long forgotten with the tires flat and blocked in by other dead machines. Thats when I decided I was going to try and rescue the old girl and bring her back to life. So I asked my boss if he what to get rid of the National. I was expecting a no or go talk to the owners answer but to my surprise he said I could have it. I decided that the following Saturday with the help of my friends would be the day I to go get her. Before I could get it out we had to move and old Cushman with a wheel missing and a golf cart out of the way. After that I started to air up her tires and as the rims lifted off the ground she creaked and groaned from being awakened from a 20 year or more slumber. Once we got her out if the garage I had to get her down to the shop so we could try to bring her back to life. The only way I could get to the shop easily was to ride her down a steep hill and the steering had a little play in it lol. Thank god the brakes worked like new or else I would have been on my way to going down an even bigger hill lol. Luckily for me some one cared enought to drain the gas before they parked her so without much trouble I got her running the next day and for sitting that long the engine runs great and it looks like some one even changed the oil before they parked her.
