Need Help Polarising a 6 Volt Generator

Postby Popeye » Thu May 05, 2011 5:02 pm

I've looked on line and have seen contradicting ways of Polarising the Generator. Can someone who Has Done It Before Please explain the proper procedure. FYI : I just installed a New Voltage Regulator & New Generator on my Farmall Super A with Positive Ground and Magneto System. So before starting it up i want to Polarise it the right way. Thanks, DanO'

Pretty simple. With the engine stopped, jump from the battery terminal of the regulator to the generator terminal (a small spark is normal) Do NOT touch the field lead doing this.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Thanks John, I knew it was a very simple procedure but It's incredible how many different people on line have said how to do this differently. . Including, as you said not to do it, by touching the field to the gen. As easy as it may be to do, I know it's equally easy to mess up & fry your voltage regulator, so I'm very hesitant about it until I know I've heard it from someone who has Actually done it to the exact Gen & Reg, set up as I have.
