Carter UT carb kit help

Postby Vale Tudo » Tue Sep 22, 2009 1:30 pm

I have a 1949 Super A [S/N 269***]. It has a Carter UT carb, but I don't know what number. A repair kit I bought that was supposed to fit my serial number, but doesn't. It has 0-1178 stamped on the side of it.Mine has a larger needle seat than the kit I got from YTD. Should it be a UT733? . Any help would be apreciated.

I am aware of only one Carter carb being used on the Farmalls. Will the new needle valve seat physically fit your carburetor? Are the threads the same? Maybe someone replaced that seat at one time and used something that is actually for a different carb? I've sold a bunch of rebuild kits for the Carter UT carbs and never had a problem or complaint from any of them.

The seat in mine is about 7/16" in diameter at the threads and 1/2" across at the top . The one that came in the kit is only 3/8" in diameter. Also the gasket is wrong. I need the gasket that has a square cut out on it around the needle and seat. The kit I have has a round cutout where I need a square one if that makes any sense. Maybe my carb was changed out over the years. I have seen many pics of kits but none with the large seat and square cut out on the gasket.

I've got a Carter kit right here in front of me. I'm sure it is probably the same one you have. Looking over the parts in this kit, I see nothing that fits the description of what you NEED, so I'm guessing that the Carter you have is NOT the correct carburetor for your tractor. I'll do some research, but I doubt if I'll come up with anything different.

I have a Super A, an I have the same problem. The kit that says it fits the Carter, doesnt. Mine is exactly as you describe. Had to clean and reuse all the parts. Hope i have no leaks :(

we got the kit from http://www.carbsonly.com out of San Diego. Carlos was pretty quick to deliver and it is the right parts. The Super A is running fine now and is up for a plowing job at the new farm in a couple weeks :D See the Super A Carter UT Carb Starvation Issues thread.
