Yep, seen that more than a few times. Better check the coil wires and stater (if it has one). They LOVE to chew the insulation off of those staters. Not sure why, but I've replaced a bunch of them.

Rudi,

Yep. That is exactly what I'm talking about. At least I'm not alone in my mechanical misery.

Tom, Bill:

So far I have been lucky - my 129 and my Craftsman have not been molested like this, but the little CoOp wasn't so lucky. The CoOp was donated to a young teen who wanted to learn... so at least some good will come of that. Amazing the damage a couple mice can do.... :big give up:

The mice chewed up the wiring on my previous suburban. Cost almost $500 to get it fixed. Luckily my insurance covered it.

DECON is in my basement and shed all year round.

Froghunter,
Yeah, I've cleaned my share of mice homes from the sheet metal. The smell goes away pretty quick after removal and some run time. I've never had one catch on fire, but have seen em toasty. I had a chance to buy a 682 that caught fire, melted the gas tank, dash, wiring........ Passed on it.

If I leave the tractors set for the winter, I also check em in the spring before firing them up. Cub Cadet actually recommended removing the sheet metal to clean dirt and debris from the fins to aid in cooling and prevent fires......
