question about old john deere implements i have

Postby fodman » Tue May 24, 2011 10:42 pm

i have a complete set of front and rear cultivators with shields and tool bars for a john deer tractor. found them in an old barn on some land i have . i think they are for a JD M . the decals on them say series 880. also in the barn is a two bottom plow that that looks like it mounted to the drawbar and has a long pointed bar that would have went under the tractor past the rear tires. this also has JD decals on it. i can see a JD sickle bar mower also under a pile of old boards, it is not a three point hitch so may be for the same tractor . also a truck load of various green implement parts and mounts and a wide front end pulled off of JD tractor. all paint is still intact and show very little use, would they be worth anything or just good for scrap metal. sorry no photos, just cant get them to load.

I would think that barn-kept implements would have some value no matter what the brand. I will send you a PM and you can e-mail your pictures to me and I will try to get them uploaded for you. But it might take a while.

i will load it all up and take it home , it's all at a place where i cant keep an eye on it, thanks for the info. may have to find a JD M tractor to go with the implements. usually i have a tractor without implements so this is backwards for me...

Or you could sell the JD implements and get some implements for the Cub. I always like exploring old barns and seeing what I find. I usually look for older tools in a time before there were tractors. It seems like barn finds are harder and harder to find because of the antique shops and other collectors.

I don't think the guy is talking about just walking through someone's barn with out the owner knowing about it. I've been through several barns around here. The owners love to show some of the things they have saved over the years and truly enjoy talking about them and explaining them to the inexperienced. It is a good way to preserve history by telling others how some things worked in the good old days.

Of course, you don't root around where you don't belong either. And you have to be wary of a stranger seeing things he shouldn't.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.
