F20 questions

Postby wisch79 » Mon Jun 20, 2011 3:10 pm

Hello all,
I am going to look at a Farmall F20 this weekend to add to the collection. I Have finished restoring my cub and was looking for something a little bigger as a project and found this one. All I know is it runs and drives, on rubber wheels, and is original. My question is what should I look for and any information about them. I know the cubs you look for cracked ears on engines and cracked finals, but any thing I should look for in an F20. He is asking $1400 for it. It is in Indiana. Any help would be appreciated as I have not found much on the internet about it!

I can't help with your question, but I was wondering if that F20 is the one I saw in Metamora.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

The one I looked at was sitting in a yard in Metamora with a for sale sign on it.

They were pretty rugged old tractors. About the only thing I know of to look for other than obvious abuse items would be freeze cracks in the block.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

check to see if the number on the rail and the engine number are the same if they are the same you have the original block if they are different then you got a block from another f-20. check for leaks at the pto. it is a pretty good machine mine is a 37 when you got to crank it(i am assuming it is hand crank) the manual states to retard the spark and crank the motor for 3 -4 times then advance the spark and crank. works everytime for me unless i flood it or it is outta gas  ps they are ALOT bigger and heavier than a cub but they look good :)

We ha a '37 lots of power and easy to handle. It seemed like was one of best for backing up a trailer. I really liked it. ron
