Mott D9 cuttershaft? bearings

Hi All,
Does anyone happen to have the bearing number info for a Mott D9 mower? These are for the main shaft that the knives are attached to. I thought mine was getting VERY hard to turn, so I removed one end and the bearing looks like it has had a "grass enema",...totally imbedded and locked up with the green stuff. Am sure it is the same on the other end too. Thanks in advance.

Mott number is: 102002

Pull the bearing and take it to your favorite autoparts store. They will be able to obtain it. But, hold onto your hat. Not cheap. Nearing heart attack wise not cheap

The 'originals' are hard to find, actually I couldn't. In the day a lubed bearing was common, but a sealed bearing makes more sense to me. What I did with mine was replace them with a sealed bearing, pretty sure I used a Fafnir 206 KLL.

I used the same holder, just don't grease it. But there are two different bearing carriers/holders I have seen, you may be better off to get it apart (not all that easy) and take the assembly to a good bearing place..... DON'T buy cheap ones!

Thanks for the numbers guys. It's been several years ago I serviced/replaced several bearings on this mower and I can't remember if I replaced those bearings before or not. My light is getting dimmer at 51:(
Does anyone else have any problems with their Mott bearings being compromised by grass? They were just completely stuffed. Is it just the tall stuff that gets in I'm guessing? I do hit a tall patch on occasion and It does tend to wrap up unless you hit it hi then lo. I wonder how well they performed in the day at mowing ditchs, as they were used for by hiway depts., without getting bound up.

I have found if you keep the cuttershaft speed up it will do OK in tall stuff. But once it starts to wrap around the bar you are in trouble and are better off clearing it out, especially at the bearings. I got into some bamboo and tell ya, that stuff could be used for fishing line. Tall stuff has strong fibers, otherwise it would fall over. A cheap pocket knife is a good think to throw in the toolbox.

I don't recall what the original bearing had for a seal (now pretty sure the brand name was 'Seal Master') but it sounds like the seal (or lack of it) and enough grease to keep stuff from getting in there. It may only be a washer. Did you grease it regularly?

If you have stuff in the bearing it is (or soon will be) junk. If there is grass, there is other stuff too.... like water.

The letters after a bearing number usually indicate shields, seals, and other special stuff... here is what KLL means:
INDUSTRIAL TRANSMISSION BEARING, WIDE INNER RING, DOUBLE SEAL. Or
CONRAD CONSTRUCTION, DOUBLE MECHANI-SEAL.

You can find bearings and more at Applied Industrial Technologies, formerly known as Bearings Inc.

You don't even have to have part numbers to find a bearing in most cases, they can find what you need if you have an accurate way of measuring I.D.; O.D.; and width along with the type of bearing you are looking for.

Thanks for the added info guys. I've dropped out the Mott from my 55, which is going to the Tug sat., and I'll address it next week sometime. It had a large washer inside the cutting box against each bearing housing but evidently wasn't quite large enough to keep the grass out. I'll remedy that when I install the new bearings. The bearings will be the sealed type, but I'll make sure I pack the housing with grease as an added precaution for the "bad stuff".

Take some pictures of the bearing housings and bring em to the Tug... Several Mott owners here. (Look me up)
