I bought a 1971 Hobart welder, G-213, with a Wisconsin TJD 2 cyl engine. The "runs good, welds good" was not exactly true but I got it running and welding but still needs some carb work. It has 2 speeds, 1800 for welding and 2200 rpm for use as a generator. The throttle knob is a T shaped handle connected to a small chain that goes to the govenor linkage. There is no lock of any form that I can see. I am not sure how to lock it at either of the two speeds. The parts diagram does not show that area clear enough for me to tell if I am missing a throttle lock. Anyone familiar with these welders than can tell me what I may be missing?
I turned the handle thinking it would lock but it did not. I took apart the handle looking for any notches or locks and there are none. This may not be the original throttle control and I may have to file some notches into the hadle shaft.
Is the hole the handle comes through key-hole shaped, so the handle can be pulled out and locked in the notch?

TJD Wisconsin manual shows two speed controls: 1) TT-66 variable speed governor control assembly and 2) TT-66-F Idle control assembly.
TT-66F: Shows a knob which is lifted, moving a rod out of a slot on the back of the tappet cover. Engine speed set, then the knob lower - moving the rod into the slot.
TT66: Is the one with the small chain. It appears to function like the old manual choke controls. Pull/push only. I'm looking at the parts photo. There appears to be a nut on the back side that may control the tension on the shaft.
Starting procedure - simply states to set the throttle position in 1/2 open position. Doesn't explain further.

Are you sure 2200 rpm is for the generator? That would be a very unusual speed. Normally they are 1800 or 3600.

We had one of those welders where I used to work. Pull the throttle and twist the t-handle to the right to lock. I don't think there were any notches or such, just a friction lock, which may be adjustable. It could be locked in any desired throttle position.
Thanks for the replies. I expect the lock is just missing. Likely I will just drill a few holes in the throttle knob shaft and place a pin to set the correct distance.
The generator does run at 1800 rpm and 2200 for the welder. I had it backwards.
