Food Grade Paint

Got a project that you are working on that is not a tractor? Maybe a barn to hold your tractors or just fun stuff like woodworking, glass, tools, sheds, gardens, custom implements, etc., this is the place to talk about it.

Food Grade Paint

Postby daddydip » Sun Jun 26, 2011 11:15 am

I am looking for a lead on either a food grade paint or coating for my fruit press. The bottom plate has a light rust on it that I don't think would help the taste of any pressed juice. I have googled it and tried to find something appropriate and have came up with a big 0 so far any help out there? :help:

I would coat it with oil between uses and power wash to remove the oil when I use it.

From a wood-turners perspective:

avoid vegetable and nut oils
these will go rancid after a while. Beside the General Products Salad bowl finish, which is a good choice, light mineral oil will also work, as it does not impart a taste and is not a problem for people with sensitivities to nut oils.

Mineral oil is what I use on wood cutting boards.

2 coats on a new board and a single coat annually.

I worked at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in college and we used mineral oil for everything in our extruding machines.

Try this link, maybe it will help food grade polyurethane for apple cider presses.
