Have I made a mistake?

I am so impressed with my 108 that I got carried away the other night and bought a 1320 off of ebay for $300.00.
This is, of course, an MTD made Cadet, the owner said it runs good but no brakes and the PTO will not engage.
Is the PTO on this model electric or mechanical?
External disc brakes?
Is this mower worth keeping or should I sell it and look for an IH Cadet for a second mower? (I have acres of grass to mow).
I will pick it up Saturday, I'm just wondering what I have got myself into this time, roses or manure?

I had a 1320 that I bought used and paid a lot more than that for, but didn't keep it long. It is a belt drive lawn tractor with a Peerless type hydrostatic trans axle that is really not a serviceable friendly unit (book says to take it to a dealer for service). Does not have a filter on it but you can add fluid but have to remove some sheet metal to get to it. If you want something that is as tough as your 108, a 1320 is not it. The PTO is electric.

I am working on a CCC 1110 for my father. Just purchased the PTO switch. $35.32. Ouch.

I own a couple of the IH built Cubs and 1 MTD lawn tractor. I am not impressed with the CCC Cubs or the MTD products.

I owned a 1320 that I stumble across for $100. I liked the 12.5 kholer engine but the deck need a lot of work but I still got $350 for it at a flea market. I also heard that the peerless hydo wasn't to dependable but this one did work nice for cutting grass.

Put the PTO switch in my dad's ccc Cub 1110. Had to swap some wires around to get the switch to work properly. Started the engine up, took the lawn tractor out for a test run. Mowed fine for a while. Tractor started to slow down - hydrostat wasn't working properly. Stopped to check the fluid level in the hydrostat.

$(&^@)&%^ design engineers. You have to take the rear fenders and seat unit off the tractor to check the fluid in the hydrostat.

Sorry just venting. Hydrostat is fine. The drive belt needs to be replaced.

I had a Pontiac stationwagon. You had to remove the grill to replace a headlight. Now that was P poor planning.

Thanks for all of the input, I will pick the 1320 up in the morning, I hope it is only the switch on the PTO and not the clutch itself, they look to be quite expensive.
I will probaly fix it up a little, sell it and keep looking for an older IH made Cub Cadet.

If that model cadet was made by MtD the smae as my White was, they used some unique setups. Dual relays hanging in the engine compartment, as well as some other wiring. Don't jump to to quick a conclusion aobut the clutch if the switch is ok.

John's right. One complicated wiring diagram. Your problem could be one of the safety switches. The diagram for the CCC Cub 1110 has 9 relays or switches in the PTO circuit.

Wiring diagrams are on http://www.ihregistry.com. These wiring diagrams provide the internal switching connections for each position in the switch. Pull the switch and ohm out the posts. Switch may be all right.

The electrical circuits are a bit over engineered. Just my humble opinion.

Had trouble with my White (MTD) blowing fuse (inder plate in front of seat). PTO would quit when it did. There is a apir of relays hanging form the wire harness just over the steering gear. The wire clip had broken and one of them had gotten in the stearing gear and broken the palstic case. When you would turn the ehele just right it would short therealy. What a pain.

I picked up the 1320 today, it does not have a PTO, it just uses a lever to throw an idler pulley to tighten the belt, the previous owner just did not understand how to properly install the belt, the brakes tightened up with just a few turns on the sdjustment.
It is just a lawnmower not a garden tractor, but for $300.00 and no money on repairs I guess I did alright.

Hey Dave...You did GOOD son for $300.00 !!! Remember...THAT'S the price of a NEW Mantis tiller...and you can't ride on it, or cut grass with it! (P.S. The Mantis is the world's BEST tiller in it's category for the money ...the "Garden Weasel" or "Claw" is NO COMPARISON...PERIOD !!!)
