Well, the beans are all canned and as usual, I ended up with leftover jar lids. Not many, just 4 or five. Right or wrong, I've never used the leftover lids the next year, just bought new. Wondering if the rubber seal would harden over time and not seal if I tried to use them next year.

I've used them after 2 or 3 years. Just soak em in hot water before use. Grump

That is what Em does.. she sterilizes em in hot water. We have used lids in unopened boxes we have had for 4 or 5 years as well as opened boxes a couple 3 years old.

We never had a problem using lids from last year.

My uses the unused ones too. She just puts them in hot water before using. Have never had a problem.

We've never had problems using year old, or older, lids. Always boil them before use as many other posters said. Jeff
