I would say it's the same across the board, but when you have guys/gals that you can just tell them a part # and they don't have to spend 15 minutes trying to look it up on a computer, they can tell you revisions from throughout the years, they can tell you if there's something besides OEM that's just as good, they actually seem to care....

I'm not sure you can always tell when you have a good one but I know when I have a bad one!

If he is educating you , not you educating him expecially if he has been doing it for years.

We have one locally that continually needs me to give him part numbers , if I dont , his response , NLA.

When you walk in, tell him what you need and he rattles off the part # from memory and grabs it off the shelf

When he tells you where to get a part for 1/5 of what he has to charge.

When he has your name and # on the desk, and when folks come in with cub ?, and looking for NLA parts, he calls you and sends them over.

When their shop needs parts like a final drive, and he sends the service manager and owner of the dealership to your place.

When he can't get parts from his supplier, and is glad to search for suppliers you recomend, so that he can make those referals. (TM and Ralph)

When he gives you the wholesale price parts you buy all the time (Carb bowl gaskets) as a way of thanks for referring folks to him.

I have a great parts guy. :big afro:

I avoid the ones with their hair dyed red, green or orange, nose ring and their pants belted around their knees. I also try not to visit parts stores on evenings and weekends when the part time help, college students are working.
I have an excuse. CRS.

When it is someone you recommend to friends, you have a good one. When he says that Ih no longer has the part, but there is still one in warehouse X, or I can get you one aftermarket form Y, then you have a good one. With all of that being said, I can highly recommend the parts guys at Flieg"s near Ste Genevieve. Their service is outstanding.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

A good parts man 1. is one you can just show the part to and he'll know exactly what it is for. My guy here is awesome, the young guy, not so great.

2. He will do anything to have the part in your hand the day or early as possible the next morning.

We had one of the best IH parts man in Mt.Airy,NC until they closed the dealership in the ninties his name was Hassell and he was quite a bit older than i most of the time when you walked up to the counter his greeting was what can i get for you today son and most of the time he didn't have to look in the book he would say i think we have that and a lot of times would quote the price as he turned to get what you needed and a lot of times when he put your parts in a bag or box he would put a new IH cap in with the parts they don't make them like that anymore sadly to say he passed away a few years back if i manage to make it to the happing farming grounds i hope he's my parts man.

Jim
