I was just communicating with MBergthold who informed me of a potential problem I may have. He had recently read an article about the necessity of soaking a new rear felt oil seal (part #4 http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/Super%20A%20-%20Super%20AV/TC-39B%20Parts%20Catalog/Page%2061.jpg) with oil to preclude glazing the felt and possibly causing a leak. Well....I recently replaced mine, and did not do this. Is there ANY way to oil this felt now that the tractor is almost completely reassembled? The oil pan is off...can I spray/squirt oil up to the rear seal that way? Or can I reinstall the oil pan, OVER fill the engine with oil so it reaches the height of that rear seal and soak it for a day or so, then drain back down to normal "full"?
I REALLY do NOT want to split the tractor now that it has been painted, and everything is almost finished! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Dale - I think over-filling it will work.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Hey, it's worth a try, right?...a few gallons (any guess how much??) of oil that maybe does the job...cheap and easy!! In any case, I might as well wait to split the tractor to see if the seal even starts leaking!

Dale, Hoist the front end up so the tractor is vertical. Then you'll only need about a couple cups of oil to cover the seal.
