Well, I guess its official, I have Cub Cadet-itus, I just couldn’t pass on this one. A nice condition 124, 2 owner (1st was a dealer in Dayton), has lights, good seat (no tears), appears the paint has been touched up at some point, but looks real good. I got the 4’ deck, front blade, “spare” ag tire and manuals. Everything appears tight (steering, wheel bearings, deck, etc.). Now the unknown… how does it run??? Previous owner said it ran fine, no smoke but has a short or electrical problem somewhere so I don’t know what I really have. So, for the deal I got I gambled, blade and lights are worth what I paid for the whole thing.
Now, the real problem, where do I put it where the wife can still park in the garage?? BOB??
I have been following a few wiring threads, will see what I can sort out and probably will be in need of a little technical help, I don’t think wiring!

You keep getting those mini-Cubs and a BOB just may be in your future. Nice find! You will find you can get more of those on a trailer than you can an FCub.

The cadets are just as contagious as the Cubs themselves. Currently, I have seven cadets. If I would still have all the ones I've owned over the past four years or so, my collection would number in the twenty-five cub cadet range . Of course, I can't hog em all and the "boss" wouldn't let me if I wanted to!

Please don't remi9nd me how bad cadetitis really is. If there priced right there comming home with me. I have a garage mostly filled with cadet, fcub, and int154 parts. I have 12 cadets right now. Six of trhem are running. I think the last time i looked.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Don't rule out wiring problems, it is a known problem in that era. The wiring insulation is known to deteriorate/crack/"rot" and allow the wire to corrode/break. If you see any cracked insulation or signs of brittle wiring, you will probably be money and time ahead by replacing the wiring harness.
The previous owner admitted the wiring had baffled him, he put on a new starter/generator (I have the original “core”), voltage regulator and solenoid and he did some splicing on the wiring. Initial inspection reveals some cracked insulation on the “original” wires so I was leaning toward replacing the harness; your comments pretty much confirm my thoughts. Do you have a source you would recommend for the harness?
I plan on doing basic maintenance on it (change fluids, fresh gas, lube and clean up) before I attempt to fire it up. The spark plug threads in the head were pretty rough and a thread cleaner appeared to straighten them out. I am sure I will uncover more as I dig in, but I am having fun tinkering with it.

I just got a harness from Porch Electric via eBay. I found several sources that sell for around $100, including Porch. However, they sell the harness on eBay for the mid $60s.
Their harness seems to be well made, using modern plastic insulation and loom rather than cloth. I have not tried installing it yet, so can't speak to how well it fits.
By the way, it is part 404379R5 but they list it as part 59321C91 ( a distinction that probably only matters to me and maybe Paul).
Thanks Jim! I saw that and figured I would give it a try unless someone had a better recommendation. I have purchased both of my Cub wiring harnesses from Porch Electric and they are also nicely built, plus Eric was a great guy to deal with.

David: There is a good part of this IMHO. I've run into tractors of different brands and such that didn't run because of electrical issues or something of that sort. Once I found those problems and corrected them, I found the engines were in great shape! The reason behind this is that a non-running engine due to electrical issues doesn't get run time at all for the most part.
So, you may just be looking at a diamond in the rough.
I just went through the rewiring on my 1200 Cub Cadet year before last during its restoration. I took one wire at a time off and replaced it with the new color coded/labeled wire. In no time at all I had the entire tractor wired and I even wired it for front and rear lights where before it had none. I must say, having these bright lights really puts the icing on the cake.
Though trillions and trillions of eyes have been watching the skies for as long as human memory exists, no gods nor angels have been seen or documented outside of religion. The number of spaceships being sighted however has become much more prevalent.
