Is an 800 worth $500?

Postby k. hansen'49cub » Sun Jun 19, 2005 10:05 am

I have a chance to buy a '74or5 800, it's really clean ,and it has a "48 mower deck ,is it worth what he is asking? I don't think he know's the collector value of an 800 (nor do I) and I know he got it for free, along with a J.D.hydro that needed a power steering cylinder!....Why could'nt that happen to one of us huh!

Hard to say without seeing it or knowing the condition of the engine, clutch etc., but if it is clean, straight sheet metal, and runs good, it is worth more than $500, although a 48" deck is a bit much for an 8 hp engine in a tractor that size. There were only 2345 model 800's built (10/74 to 12/75), making it the model with the lowest production, as far as is known at the present time. Some models of the IH built "red" 82 series (7/80 to 4/81) may have lower numbers, but I don't know if those production numbers have surfaced yet or not.
