Anyone know how to remove item #30 on page 166, The Transmission Drive Flange?:http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/Super%20A%20-%20Super%20AV/TC-39B%20Parts%20Catalog/Page%20166.jpgI am trying to replace the Transmission Spline Shaft Oil Seal, #27, and I have removed the center bolt, there is a key, but it does NOT want to come off. Tried prying and a puller (moved about 1/8"), but don't want to break the flange. Next question: Anyone know where I can get a set of Clutch Drive Shaft Joint Rubber Washers (8), #14 page 163? I split my SA & I REALLY want to get him back together again. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I came in this morning determined to get this thing off!! I was able to get the mechanic next door (bribed with lunch!) to come over and help me. I had been on the right track (almost what you suggested, Jim) and with his finess (an unusual aspect in most male mechanics I know!!) we used a substitute bolt with a recessed head (to keep the puller center screw from slipping off) and added a set of vice grips to squeeze and hold the puller arms on the recess behind the flange. It worked like a champ! I do have another question for anyone: The Rubber Washers (#14 page 163 http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/Super%20A%20-%20Super%20AV/TC-39B%20Parts%20Catalog/Page%20163.jpg) are no longer available from IH. Mine do need to be replaced. Anyone know if they are available from anyone else, or if there is a substitute product? They are about 1/4" thick and 1 1/8" in diameter and sit inside a metal retainer (one above is missing from its retainer). I am checking a rubber and gasket company tomorrow...we'll see... Thanks!

At the rate that I am taking things back apart, it'll be time for a new paint job, too!!! Oil pan next...!
I was going to do a nice How To for the transmission, but since I am now stopped by these stupid washers, I will wait 'til I am finished. I tried using a hole saw to cut a circle out of a tire side wall (suggested by the Service Manager/mechanic for the local IH shop). I think it would work, but can't find a hole saw the right diameter, ~ 1 1/16 - 1 1/8". Hopefully I will get lucky with this Rubber/Gasket company tomorrow. If I am able to get some, anyone else want any? The SA uses 8 for the assembly.

Dale, Messick's doesn't show them as available, but you might want to give them a call anyway: http://www.messicks.com/partsearch.aspx ... 0d&ven=casBob Edit: I can't get the correct link to copy, but it shows them at $2.38. Type in the part # and you'll see it.

Dale - check out the possibility of rubber bushings such as the ones used to attach truck bodies to the chassis. You may be able to slice sections out of one of them if you find the right diameter. Auto parts stores would be a good source.\ Check out this link: http://www.casertainc.com/index.html

I called Messick's today, was real excited when I saw they listed them and a good price. But, alas, they did NOT have them, and after checking several alternate sources she had, she said no go. I couldn't believe NOBODY has replaced these things! Bigdog wrote:Auto parts stores would be a good source
I plan to go to NAPA tomorrow and see if we can brainstorm something. Jim Becker wrote: How about radiator mounting pads?
Good idea!! I will dig out a couple of the old ones I removed from the SA and see if they are the right thickness and if they can be cut. If so, I will order some new ones. Thanks all for the suggestions!

YEA!! Someone suggested a place in Raleigh that might be able to make the flange washers I need. So I dashed off there and showed them the washers and they said SURE!! I waited 20-30 minutes and...TA DA! I had 2 sets of 8 beautiful Buna Rubber washers! While I was there, I asked if they could duplicate the fuel strainer washer I had just purchased for about $4 from IH, after buying a couple cork ones that leaked like a sieve! They said SURE!! And a few minutes later I had 10 new rubber gaskets! I am VERY HAPPY today! Hopefully tomorrow will be a good day as well, and I will get Bubba put back together (again!). Of course, I still have to thread that looong drive shaft back into the engine......hmmmmm.....oh dear.....! Have a good night, all!

Well, Dale, since I have relatives in that area, you need to reveal your source, of course.

It is Raleigh Durham Rubber and Gaskets, 919-781-6817. I have their address but it is at the shop, if you need it. They have all sorts of stuff, and are really nice. The owner of the shop uses them a lot. If you need something, just let me know.
