Re: Serial Number Question?
Yes, 408575 is the serial number, which means that it was built in October, 1971. The serial number is not model specific, so that could be any of the Series 6 Cub Cadets, 86, 108, 109, 128, 129, or 149. It cannot be a 169 because they did not start being built iuntil 1974 at serial number 506737.

Re: Serial Number Question?
The first seven numbers are kind code numbers. I believe the model number can be derived from the kind codes. Paul B. should be along shortly to clear the mud.

Re: Serial Number Question?
A little more info to pass on.
The first 3 numbers are always 205 for a cub cadet.
The U stands for USA (where it was manufactured) .
The kind codes weren't used from the Original up to the 125. After that, they were used in the serial numbers.

Re: Serial Number Question?
So...
205 = Cub Cadet
0043 = 108
U = USA
408575 = 10/71
That makes her exactly 40 years old and the first year for the 108 model?

Re: Serial Number Question?
Steve,
That's correct. The 108's are great tractors. Well, any cub cadet is a great tractor. I'm kinda partial to the older IH built ones with cast rearends.

Paul,
I must say that I've learned quite a bit about cub cadets and their history from reading a lot of posts over the past 5+ years on this forum as well as others. Quite a bit of that information was garnered from your posts as well as other cub experts. Just wanting to give credit where credit is due! A big thanks to Paul!
