The lathe and the hoped for milling machine will be just the ticket to help you recover. Ask me ... .... having my shop and my Cub were the things that helped get me motivated to do what the docs and Em said -- recover and heal. I really was itching to get down and get stuff done .. having projects gave purpose especially since I was retired.

Enjoy the planning -- it leads to better things. Do what the docs say and you will be stronger and ready go before you know it

Thanks for the encouraging word Rudi. Seems like I've been taking 3 steps forward and 2 backward. I have been a bit of a puzzle for the doctors. Next summer should be better.At 53 years old I really wasn't expecting to have to retire.

Most lathes have the serial number stamped into the bed somewhere near the tail stock.. Check the South Bend page for that serial number. There's also the Logan acutator companies page that has alot of lathe info.. By the way, very nice lathe .. That electric motor - is that a "peerless" ..

I can't remember what brand the motor is but I'll check when i'm in the garage again. As for a serial number there is a "1" stamped on the ways and on the saddle. The lathe has been completely disassembled for cleaning and painting. On the underside of the housing that supports the drive end cone pulleys was a tag that was cast into it that said "Trade School Lathe". Sorry for the lack of correct terms for the parts but for now they escape me! Brain has a severe vapor lock at the moment.
