starter generator issuesThe generator isn't putting out much/any juice. Starts nice but not charging. Brushes look ok and contacts on regulator been cleaned. Any suggestions?
Re: starter generator issuesA lot of issues come into play here. I suggest using the troubleshooting flowchart in the following link to isolate the problem and go from there. Flowchart is courtesy of FarmallBob:

Re: starter generator issuesHow do you know it is not charging? No movement of the amp meter or from voltage measurements at the generator/regulator?
Re: starter generator issuesStarter/generators do not have a very high amperage output. Since the s/g starts the engine, that normally indicates it is in good condition.
If the s/g is in fact not charging - the fault is the charging circuit. Regulator or wiring problem. I have an excuse. CRS.
Re: starter generator issuesDid you clean the contacts in the voltage regulator?
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem. My wife says I don't listen to her. - - - - - - - - Or something like that! http://www.cubtug.com
Re: starter generator issuesHi all & thanks,
I found a local shop that does rebuilds on the starter/generator. He will diagnose before doing the work. I'm not electrical savvy so seems a good option. I'll outline what I've done: New harness Checked with volt meter less than 12V output Dash meter always reads discharge side of line Nice that someone rebuilds instead of replaces! He said he can get replacements from India but prefers to rebuild the old iron! Came highly recommended and can turn around in a few days! Just in time for the Christmas Parade!!!!
