Farmall Cub

The mower in question is a Cub Cadet about 2004 model. When the tractor is first brought out for mowing the clutch readily and quickly engages the blades when the switch is activated. After mowing for a time and the unit reaches normal operating temperature, if the tractor is stopped and the clutch is disengaged, when restarted and the clutch re-engaged, the clutch is very slow to engage, takes several seconds for it to start the blades turning. Any ideas where to start this troubleshooting? :?:

Could be that your battery is going bad. If you do not have a really good charge, the clutch will not fully engage. The PTO clutch is also the largest drain on the battery and charging system, so, if the PTO clutch is not adjusted appropriately, it will use more power than usual, and cause both premature wear of the clutch, and drain the power from the battery.

Check the air gap in the clutch. Also check for oil on the clutch. If no oil give all the air gap adjustment screws 1/4 turn then try the clutch. Be sure to keep them all even.
