corn sheller

Postby TJG » Sun Nov 27, 2011 8:11 pm

Does anyone have a manual for this type of sheller? I picked it up this weekend from a relative to use. I've got the hopper and handle piece, they just arent' in the pictures.

thanks,

Todd

Wish I could help...I'd love to have something like that myself. Binderbooks has some of those on their site. I know that the Wisconsin Historical Society has a 1949 General IH catalog in their on-line archives, may can at least get the catalog info on it.

I don't have a manual but I have one like it. If memory serves me correctly, you can use a rubber seal from a five gallon bucket, it will work as a belt for the flapper, instead of the original leather belt.

No manual. I was bidding on a cub cadet riding mower and thought I won at a low price. Then I realized the auction flag was really on a corn sheller like you have. I was then the owner of the sheller for what was likely a high price. Should have looked more carefully prior to bidding.

I do have a question, what is the purpose of the cone shaped thing on the shaft?

That is a ear nubber --- stick the small pointed end (top end of ear) with the small kernels in the cone and it removes them from the cob. Back when they used them they saved their own seedcorn and the nubber got down to where the uniform kernels started. thanks;sonny
