What takes 6 months to make in your spare time?

Got a project that you are working on that is not a tractor? Maybe a barn to hold your tractors or just fun stuff like woodworking, glass, tools, sheds, gardens, custom implements, etc., this is the place to talk about it.

...THIS DOES !!

This project put everything we were doing on hold most of the year since the snow melted!
My wife and I both hold full time jobs and did this in the basement sewing room and the dining room, which we didn't eat in for 6 months.
The gown was totally designed and created by us...no pattern.
There's a little over 20yrds of bridal satin, several other types of fabric, about 100 custom embroidered appliques and a few thousand beads, crystals and sequins of numerous types on there.
Pictured is my daughter Jessica on her wedding day 11-11-11, Smathers Beach Key West.

Marion,

Simply beautiful (the bride also)! I asked my wife to come look and she agreed. I might add that in 25 + or - years you can have at it again and use the gown as part of your granddaughter's bridal gown. That is what happened in our family.

Thanks for the praise fellas! We put soooo much time into this! DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME !!!! HAHAHA !!!
The gown is exquisite in every aspect. The pics truly do not represent the real beauty and detail of workmanship.
Most of the attached embellishments are silver foil-backed, and the thing just reflects any and all light in an awesome way.
One has to see it in person to get the whole effect.
Jess loved it...groom Joseph loved it...she got stopped everywhere she went the night of the wedding for comments and inquiries as to where she ''bought'' the dress!
Most all were astonished to hear a nurse and a machinist made it from scratch!
We spent countless hours hand sewing each and every embellishment on the dress one by one.
Chilled Pinot Grigio helped calm the nerves too !
Pamela and I had great fun, and yes, some frustration as well creating this masterpiece.
It was all so TOTALLY worth it to witness the joy as two became one on the beach at sunset.
...and, now y'all know why I have a head of all grey and white hair...it's from the stress of letting that out of the house in high school on Friday and Saturday nights to be with boys

Beautiful dress and bride! You should be proud of both. My mother in law made my wife’s wedding dress, not quite as intricate as yours, but still special dress to always cherish.

Thanks for sharing,
David

Marion,

Just had my daughter look at the pics. "That is BEAUTIFUL." She owns a bridal store in Mentor. Thought you would like to know.

The dress may have taken 6 months, but a daughter like that takes a lifetime.
